About This Role

# Overnight Operations Specialist — Mandarin Speaker (Remote) A Chicago-area international freight forwarder (FMC NVOCC/OTI, IATA certified) is hiring a remote overnight operations specialist to handle live coordination with overseas agents — primarily across Greater China and broader APAC — during their business hours. Multimodal services include ocean (FCL/LCL), air freight (including DG), customs brokerage, and warehousing, with a vertical edge in automotive, mechanical engineering, and optical-industry freight. The company operates under both X2 Elite and G7N network partnerships, with active agent relationships across 150+ countries. This role exists because real-time overseas execution can't wait for the U.S. workday. The right person picks up where the U.S. day shift left off, coordinates bookings, documentation, and exception handling directly with overseas agents in Mandarin, and hands a clean file back to the U.S. team the next morning. Fully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S. ## What You'll Own - **Live coordination with overseas agents in Mandarin** — primarily Greater China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and broader APAC. Bookings, pre-alerts, document review, milestone updates, exception escalation. - **Multimodal file execution** during the overnight window — ocean FCL/LCL, air freight (including DG/dangerous goods), customs interface, U.S. inland coordination. - **Documentation accuracy** — house and master bills, commercial invoices, packing lists, ISF, AMS, customs entries; clean files mean fast clearance the next morning. - **Exception handling** — when a vessel rolls, a flight cancels, a shipper changes pickup, or a customs hold appears, you're the person who works it overseas before the U.S. office wakes up. - **Handoff discipline** — clear, structured notes for the U.S. day team so nothing falls between shifts. ## What You Bring **Required:** - **Fluent Mandarin** — read, write, and speak. Business-grade fluency on freight terminology, contracts, and customer-facing communication. - 2+ years in **international freight forwarding operations** — ocean and/or air. Hands-on file execution, not just CSR or pricing support. - Comfortable working an **overnight schedule** (alignment with APAC business hours) on a sustained basis. - Working knowledge of forwarder TMS / operations platforms (CargoWise, Descartes, Magaya, or similar). - Detail orientation under deadline pressure — international files reward people who catch errors before they cost the customer money. - Reliable home-office setup: stable internet, quiet workspace, ability to be reachable on company tools throughout the shift. **Helpful but not required:** - Direct experience with X2 Elite, G7N, or other global agent-network workflows. - Customs interface exposure (entries, ISF, AMS, classification basics). - DG / IATA hazmat handling experience. - Familiarity with automotive, mechanical engineering, or optical-industry freight flows. ## Compensation & Schedule - **Base salary: $55,000 – $75,000** (overnight + Mandarin language premium reflected in the band; flexible for the right candidate) - Overnight shift aligned with APAC business hours - **Fully remote (U.S.-based)** — work from anywhere with reliable internet - Benefits + a real seat inside a tight 11-50 person team that runs specialty freight — not commodity volume - Career runway as the agent network grows
